What isolation feels like
I’m stuck,
not only literally.
Time doesn’t move here. One day feels like three when all there is to do is lie on my back and think.
I watch my bank account run empty
while my landlord takes out rent.
The pandemic has left me unemployed,
hungry and bored.
Mom wants me home,in a town I have grown out of, a town that has forgotten me.
Where do I belong, then?
In a time of crisis, I get by With FaceTime calls and saying “I love you” over text.
Claire Huber is a sophomore journalism major from Omaha, Nebraska. She is living in Columbia with her wonderful roommates and two cats. She has been working at a grocery store during the pandemic to make ends meet.
